Paper Title: A Case on Foreign Direct Investment:
Measuring the Impact of Traditional and Transitional Factors in SAARC Countries
Abstract:

This paper attempts to depict the relationship between foreign direct investments (FDI) with traditional and transitional determinants into Pakistan, India, Sri-Lanka, Afghanistan, Bhutan, Maldives, Nepal and Bangladesh (SAARC countries) using panel data fixed effects estimation for the time period of 1995-2015. There are many studies in literature that emerged the different transitional and traditional determinants of FDI on the global data but this study especially focuses on SAARC countries and examines the combined impact of traditional and transitional factors of foreign direct investment. This study identifies those factors that influence the investment decisions of multinational corporations and investors. The paper highlights the findings that infrastructure developments (INFRA) and level of education (LITERACY) have significant negative impact on FDI among traditional factors. While, market size (GDPPC), macroeconomic stability (INFLATION) and trade openness (TRADE) are significant with positive sign. The results also indicates that the transitional factors such as control of corruption (CORI), accountability (ACCI), property rights (PRI), regulatory quality (REGI), political repression (POLI), energy generation (ENERGY) have significant impact on foreign direct investment in SAARC countries. It clearly implies that both traditional and transitional determinants have their own significant impact on foreign direct investment across SAARC countries. The findings of this study will provide an opportunity for the settlement of some policy implications. This study will open a way to give a proper understanding about the impact of different traditional and transitional determinants of FDI.
